Let’s face it, your garage isn’t an easy place to keep things orderly and organized. If you’re like most people, your garage has a wide range of uses. From being a place to store your car, a toolshed, an extra playroom, a bike shop, to a storage space for basically everything, garages have many uses. The versatility of a garage makes it easier for it to be cluttered, rather than clean and tidy. Put these organizational ideas into practice and make your garage a stress-free space for all of your belongings.

Hang Things for Helpful Storage

The best way to keep things organized, especially when you don’t have much space, is to hang everything. It’s also helpful to have a spot where everything belongs. If your belongings have a set space where they go, it’ll likely be easier to put them away in an organized fashion. A great idea for your garage is to create hanging racks where things go. Hanging things eliminates having a cluttered floor and creating some extra shelf space will be extremely beneficial.

Installing cabinets actually isn’t as hard as you think. You can buy cabinets that are already assembled. This makes them seamless to install as you only have to hang them on the walls yourself. Hanging extra cabinets is a great way to keep things organized without getting in the way of the rest of your garage. Start thinking vertically to save space in your garage. You can even make a vertical bike rack or hang them from hooks on the ceiling. Hanging things keeps them out of your way and keeps you on the road to an organized garage.

Keep Your Toys Tidy

Installing more cabinet space also makes it easier to keep the family’s toys organized. If you’re like most people, you probably have to jump over a few soccer balls or skateboards to find the door. A great idea is to get plastic storage bins and label them. Create a label for each different type of tool or toy. Have bins separated by category: sports balls in one bin, cleats in another, helmets in their own storage space. Place these storage bins on your newly installed shelves or make a space for them somewhere they can stay organized. Stackable drawers are another great space saver to keep your garage clean and clutter-free.

Make a Mudroom

A great way to keep the mess out of your house is to make a mudroom in your garage. It’s simple and an easy way to keep the mess outside. Install a beam or hooks to hang jackets and coats on so they are easy to grab as you’re running out of the house. Repurpose an old dresser or cabinet and turn it into the perfect storage space for all of your shoes. You can even create racks and bins for other seasonal items to stay organized, such as gloves and hats. Creating more storage outside your door is a great way to keep your entry way elegantly free from messes.

Get Creative with Storage

When working with a small space like a garage, stay creative to find new ways and spaces for storage. Pegboards are a great way to keep your tools and appliances organized and accounted for. Their helpful holes make it the perfect place to store anything from tape and nails to hammers and drills. It’s even a great way to hang long-handled items such as rakes, brooms, and shovels. Get them out of your way and hanging on the wall, simply by using a pegboard.

If you’re a DIY crafter or a handyman in need of more workspace in your garage, turn to fold up tables. Build or buy a worktable that attaches to your wall and folds down when you need it. This saves space, while still allowing you the workspace you need. Keep your tools handy and organized by creating a caddy or toolbox for them. Craft until your heart’s content in your newly functional garage.

Your garage is often one of the most multi-functional places in a house. However, that doesn’t mean it has to be a cluster of chaos every time you try to get in the car. Put these organization tips into practice and be on the fast track to turning your garage into the clean space it can be.
